John,
Thanks to our grassroots movement powered by people like you, we’re on the verge of passing historic legislation that invests in our future and is paid for by making the rich and corporations pay a fairer share of taxes.
The House of Representatives has already passed the $2 trillion Build Back Better Act, which the Senate is expected to vote on early in the New Year. That legislation will lower everyday costs of healthcare, childcare and housing for working families, and make transformative investments. These include providing universal pre-K education, childcare for working families and caregiving for seniors; capping prescription drug costs at $2,000 under Medicare; reducing health insurance premiums for 9 million people and helping 4 million others get coverage under Medicaid; and undertaking the largest effort to combat climate change in American history.[1]
These investments will be paid for by enacting a corporate minimum tax to ensure no large profitable corporation gets away with paying $0 in federal income tax, closing loopholes that have encouraged multinational corporations to ship jobs overseas and profits to offshore tax havens, and pursuing wealthy and corporate tax cheats by greatly strengthening IRS enforcement activities.
Americans for Tax Fairness has led the charge in Congress and around the country for these progressive tax reforms and you are the power behind our movement for change. That's true, whether it’s fighting for a Billionaires Income Tax to tax billionaire wealth like your wages are taxed (there is still a chance it could get included in the final legislation) to championing the Child Tax Credit that provides up to a $300 monthly payment to families for each child―lifting millions out of poverty.[2]
Take a look at the graphic below, which highlights some of what we’ve accomplished together this year. Then pitch in $13―our average grassroots contribution in 2021―to finish the job and pass the Build Back Better Act in 2022!
Thank you for fighting to unrig our tax system and invest in a future that includes all of us, not just the wealthy few.
