The recent dysfunction in the Senate is a reminder that the Democrats’ majority is hanging by a thread in the next election. 

Did you know that Ron Johnson is the only Republican incumbent who has to run in a state that Joe Biden won last year? That’s one big reason he’s our top Senate target.

It’s not just that Ron Johnson can be defeated next year. It’s also because he deserves it.

He’s been downplaying the January 6th attack (in which people died!) since it happened, even trying to compare it to a tourist visit. He’s trying to change the rules in his home state to take oversight of federal elections (including his own) away from a bipartisan commission and hand it to the Republican-controlled legislature. And a few months back, he had his YouTube account suspended for spreading misinformation about COVID. (He still believes mouthwash is a cure, by the way.)

The truth, though, is next year’s election is stacked against Democrats. We can’t run the same-old playbook and expect to win. If we dump millions of dollars into negative TV ads, we are going to get our clocks cleaned.

That’s why we’re taking a different approach — identifying and organizing real-live voters in Wisconsin to speak out about Ron Johnson and what’s at stake in this election. This is a tactic we know works, and we hope to repeat in other target races as the year goes on.
