John,
Congress keeps kicking the can down the road.
We now have a continuing resolution, known as a CR, that creates a flat-funded spending plan until Feb. 18, 2022.1 While it is good news that the Republicans did not force a government shutdown, passing CR after CR is no way to govern.
Let's be clear. These short-term solutions lock in Trump-era spending levels that are causing harm to our communities. Flat funding from a prolonged CR will fail people with low incomes by not providing needed increases in human needs programs like heating assistance in the winter, nutrition programs, rental assistance and much more.
The Coalition on Human Needs is leading the fight for a human needs agenda. If you can afford it, please make a year-end tax-deductible contribution to CHN today to ensure our continued advocacy in the New Year to fight for policies that lift up working people and families and fight to finally pass the Build Back Better Act.

The consequences of not acting to pass a full budget are reckless, irresponsible and prevent us from making critical funding adjustments in our federal budget to address ongoing and new challenges the American people face. ?
A full "omnibus" appropriations bill is the only way to make investments that create jobs, bolster our public health infrastructure and medical research, strengthen our schools, protect our air and water and advance environmental justice, combat the opioid epidemic, and support core services such as food safety and consumer product inspections, and so much more. We must do better to protect our people from threats to their health, safety, and economic future.
If we continue to fund the federal government through CRs, we merely continue to lock in Trump-era spending. And that means historic investments in our communities will be denied.
John, can you make a year-end, tax-deductible contribution to CHN today? Your support is critical to fighting for policies that lift up working people and families.

In 2022, together, we will keep up the pressure on members of Congress who refuse to come to the negotiating table. That means we will finally get an adequate current year budget, and CHN will hold members of Congress accountable and demand they finally pass the Build Back Better Act.
Thank you for all you do to fight for a future that lifts up working families, the vulnerable, the sick and the poor.
