Dear Friend,
At the height of one of the most visible and important Pride months in our movement’s history, The New York Timesjust published a profile of GLAAD <[link removed]>that showcases our work to move LGBTQ acceptance forward, including some of our most impactful achievements over the last 35 years - none of which could have been achieved without your ongoing support.
Our mission at GLAAD has always been the same - leveraging media and culture to reach 100% acceptance - and that will never change until it is achieved.
The article discusses The Equality Amendment <[link removed]>, a bold new idea that supports our mission and will educate the public about the real and ever-present discrimination that LGBTQ people and other marginalized communities face. We can still be fired in more than half the states. Children are still being forced into so-called conversion therapy in even more states than that. Loving LGBTQ couples can be denied the ability to adopt in ten states. And that’s to say nothing of the ongoing violence faced by our community - especially transgender women of color.
I will be proudly marching tomorrow in New York City alongside my own family and our larger LGBTQ family to celebrate the achievements of the fifty years since Stonewall. But our work is far from over. On Monday, we will all get back to work, marching toward a future of 100% acceptance for all.
Yours in Pride,
Sarah Kate Ellis
