GIVE TODAY TO PROTECT THE RIGHT TO ORGANIZE ([link removed])
The right to organize is fundamental to our democracy. According to a new prosecutorial discretion memo, Immigration & Custom Enforcement (ICE) agents can't obstruct this fundamental right- a win that is a result of grassroots organizing by NCLEJ's clients @MigrantJustice and others. This image, taken from a recent action, shows farmworkers inviting the northeast supermarket chain Hannaford to join the Milk with Dignity Program.

My name is Leah Lotto. I chose public interest law because of the values that my family instilled in me as a child. I wish more people knew how flexible the NCLEJ team is to using the solutions that communities decide are best for their futures.

As lawyers, we have a vast toolbox. We can bring traditional actions, like lawsuits, or we can work behind the scenes and perform legal research to help communities have the data and best chance to defend their rights and livelihoods.

At times, it can feel like Goliath is winning and the challenges can be overwhelming. But there is also joy.

My proudest moment was marching down Main Street in Burlington, Vermont, announcing victory with our grassroots partner, Migrant Justice.

Today, I give gratitude to the many workers, including farm workers and dairy workers, who have been hustling non-stop through the pandemic to put food on our table.

Give today so that workers can have the legal tools to safely organize for fairness in the workplace. ([link removed])

P.S. Check out the media coverage that NCLEJ received last week. ([link removed]) NCLEJ just filed a lawsuit in New York State Supreme Court against the state Department of Labor. We argued that all eligible workers should be able to claim unemployment benefits, and this access should not be hindered because of language.
