Another busy (and arguably, bizarre) year is almost in the books. 2021 was a huge year for World BEYOND War. Not only did we make the leap to grow and become our own entity by securing our 501c3 status in the U.S. (and working on the same in Canada and other countries), but we also successfully held a #NoWar2021 virtual conference that attracted attendees from 33 countries, launched 6 new chapters around the world (Afghanistan, India, Italy, Chile, Canada x 2), collected nearly 30,000 signatures to tell COP26 to stop excluding military emissions from climate agreements (and organized our own delegation that went to Glasgow), led divestment campaigns, and launched new programs like the Peace Education and Action for Impact program which brought together close to 200 young peace leaders from 12 countries. That was one of three big online courses we offered in 2021 (with five planned for 2022) along with numerous online book clubs, dozens of wonderful webinars, endless nonviolent actions, and much much more! You can watch our Top 10 List of 2021 video here. And we did this ALL with just 7 part-time staff members! Think about all we could get done with a full-time staff!
Thank you for making these accomplishments possible and for being part of this incredible global community working together to end war.
That’s (almost) a wrap on 2021. But we’re looking forward to everything we can get done in 2022 (Divesting from the war machine! Closing military bases! Helping to save our planet and ensure safe food and water! Protecting the land rights of indigenous communities around the world! Ending systemic violence and militarism! Mentoring young peace leaders to ensure the sustainability of the peace movement!). Until then, please share our Peace Pledge with your family and friends, help spread the word about the work we’re doing, and consider making a financial contribution this year in support of abolishing war and building a just and sustainable peace next year (*donations are deductible from U.S. taxes).
