Friend: I need to explain what's riding on our 11:59 p.m. fundraising deadline tomorrow. Not only is it the final and most important public FEC reporting deadline of the year – it's also our last opportunity to ensure we enter the election year with strength in resources. This is essential to preventing a GOP takeover of Senate control.

Allow me to outline what's happened under Democratic majorities with investigative power. I've had a front-row seat to it: revelation after revelation of former President Donald Trump's anti-democratic obstruction – aided by cronies from Steve Bannon to Mark Meadows and even Republican members of Congress. Trump's acting attorney general confirmed to our Senate Judiciary Committee that the former president tried to exert executive power and pressure to try to overturn the 2020 election.

Just recently, we even learned that Trump's allies were considering a coup to keep him in power. We also know that the Trump family and GOP members of Congress may have aided or been in contact with violent insurrectionists on the day of the Jan. 6 attack on our capitol.

Those details chill me to the bone every time I recount them – but here's what we must remember: We are only uncovering the full truth because Democrats hold control of Congress. Our majority ensures we are able to investigate and even hold the most powerful people accountable for wrongdoing.

But if we make missteps on fundraising or strategy and lose our Democratic Senate control, Republicans call the shots again – and you and I both know, Friend, that they will sweep all wrongdoing by Donald Trump under the rug and embolden the streaks of authoritarianism that have infested their party.

Passing bold legislation, securing justice and accountability, protecting our democracy, and improving the lives of everyday people – it all hinges on protecting and expanding a very fragile Democratic control of the Senate. That's why this deadline is so important, and right now, as I'm facing a $5,219 shortfall, I must ask for your help: Please, will you rush a contribution of $5 or more – whatever you can spare to ensure we have the resources to defend this must-win Senate seat – so we can fight GOP attacks and protect Democratic Senate control?

Thank you,

Dick
