Dear Friend,

Thank you! As 2021 draws to a close, we want to thank you on behalf of Muslim Advocates’ staff and Board, for your ongoing support that has allowed us to achieve so much this year.

Thanks to you and our incredible community of donors, we’ve been able to continue working on behalf of you, American Muslims and all people to halt bigotry in its tracks. Whether it’s in the courts, the halls of power or your community, it has been our privilege to fight for you and all those in need.

We hope you are proud of the work you helped up accomplish and want to share a few highlights from 2021:

After Muhammad Muhaymin, Jr.—a Black, disabled Muslim man–was arrested and killed by police officers while trying to bring his service dog into a public restroom, the City of Phoenix tried to seal the court hearing documents. Muslim Advocates intervened and convinced a judge to unseal the records.
We also connected the Muhaymin family with the U.S.Department of Justice, who then announced an important investigation into the actions of the Phoenix Police Department this summer. We’re still working to bring attention to the case and bring accountability to the officers who killed Muhaymin.

Muslim Advocates sued Facebook and its executives in April for misleading consumers and advocates about their ability and willingness to remove anti-Muslim content. Since then, Frances Haugen’s whistleblower testimony and the release of the Facebook papers have further shown that Facebook knows the damage it is causing and chooses to do nothing.
Additionally, D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine and leading consumer groups – Consumer Reports, Public Knowledge and Upturn – all filed briefs supporting our lawsuit and arguing that Facebook is not above the law and must be held accountable.

When Rep. Lauren Boebert repeatedly attacked Rep. Ilhan Omar with anti-Muslim smears and stereotypes, and most recently when Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene posted offensive Twitter threads with false stereotypes and conspiracy theories about Muslims and Islam, Muslim Advocates took action to hold them accountable.
We partnered with Bend the Arc: Jewish Action to file a formal demand for an ethics investigation of Rep. Boebert, and launched a campaign to pressure Republican leaders to hold them accountable for their bigotry and to strip Rep. Boebert of her committee assignments. We are still working to make sure that anyone who spreads anti-Muslim hate in Congress faces consequences.

As we enter 2022 and reflect on the year behind us, it’s important to take a moment and focus on the great work ahead of us. We need to keep making a real and lasting difference - and we can’t do it without you.

Your continued support and belief in our work is greatly valued.
