Dear Friend,

New wolf trapping and snaring rules in Idaho aim to facilitate the slaughter of up to 90% of the state’s wolves. Earthjustice has been fighting to protect wolves for decades, and we are not backing down now. Following Idaho’s latest attack, we immediately filed a lawsuit challenging the state’s reckless wolf trapping and snaring regime, which also threatens federally-protected grizzly bears and Canada lynx.

Right now, you have the chance to double your impact in the fight to protect threatened wildlife. Thanks to a longtime Earthjustice supporter, your most generous gift will be matched $1-for-$1 if you give before midnight on Dec 31!

Idaho’s wolf-killing rules include expanded authorization of the use of steel traps and cable snares, brutal devices that frequently kill and cause horrific injuries to any animal that steps into them. In addition to contributing to the widespread killing of wolves, these cruel devices will also have unintended, potentially deadly consequences for nearby grizzly bears and lynx, both of which are protected species under the federal Endangered Species Act. Losing even a few of these ecologically important predators could significantly hamper their recovery in Idaho. This is why we must act now.

This new lawsuit is only the most recent in a series of fights to protect wolves and endangered wildlife across the country. Right now, Earthjustice attorneys are hard at work:

*Challenging the Trump administration’s decision to strip Endangered Species Act protections from gray wolves across most of the lower 48 states

*Representing wildlife advocates and hunters in a petition to the U.S. Forest Service to issue new protections for gray wolves across nearly 8 million acres of designated wilderness

*Issuing a notice of intent to sue Montana for its aggressive wolf-trapping and snaring regulations

The hard truth is, we are in the midst of a biodiversity crisis, and the fight to protect wolves is a critical part of the solution. Wolves help maintain a healthy ecological balance — and harm to them ripples outward to other species.

Join the fight today by making a special MATCHED gift and ensure that we are able to see these important fights through to the end.

As always, I am so grateful for your partnership.

Sincerely,
Ben Scrimshaw
