Back to strategy: Iowa is a more recent priority for us, but given the anti-choice nature of both state chambers and the anti-choice Governor, we, unfortunately, expect an increase in attacks on abortion rights in the coming year.

The majority of Iowans live in counties with no abortion clinic (that's more than 90% of Iowa counties!)

In 2020, the Iowa State Senate passed a constitutional amendment clarifying that there is no right to an abortion in the Iowa Constitution. As the constitutional amendment works its way through the State House before coming to a statewide vote, we have to work to elect prochoice champions who can stop it.

Not too far away in Michigan, politicians nearly succeeded in putting an anti-abortion ballot initiative on the ballot in 2020, and it also has an unenforced pre-Roe abortion ban on the books.

Not to mention, as the GOP targets states like Michigan to overrule election results, they’re using issues like abortion to drum up support among some of their most extreme voters.

Now for some good news: in 2020, our Endorsed Candidates flipped the Michigan Supreme Court from anti-choice to prochoice, and 2022 is going to be all about building on that incredible momentum.
