Friend, Last month, a little boy from Pittsburgh named Ajani died because a gun in his house was unsecured¹. It’s the stuff of nightmares, and his family is spending this winter season without him. He was four years old, and the world will never know all he wished to accomplish in this life. As the father of a three year old, it shakes me to my core to think about what they’re going through, and I’m more used to talking about these issues than most folks. This tragedy was completely avoidable and it’s completely commonplace - according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, at least 100 Pennsylvania children under eighteen were killed with a bullet in 2019. Half died due to self inflicted violence². I’m furious that another child’s death likely won’t soften the hearts of those who hold the most power at this moment, but we can’t lose hope. Gun locks save lives. Unfortunately, we do not have laws mandating safe gun storage as a requirement for responsible gun ownership. We can make that happen, with your help. |
