Barring Foreigners from Participating in Referenda Elections – Federal campaign finance law prohibits foreign governments and foreign nationals from participating in local, state, and federal elections of candidates for office in the United States, but it does not prevent them from participating in elections involving referenda and issue-based ballot measures. The same rationale for preventing foreign nationals and particularly foreign governments from interfering with and intruding into the choices made by American citizens voting in elections for President, Congress, state legislatures, and other state and local offices applies to referenda and issue-based ballot measures. Congress should amend the law to extend the federal ban to all elections involving referenda and issue-based ballot measures to prevent foreign interference and intrusion into our democratic process. Heritage Expert: Hans von Spakovsky 

 

Joe Biden Needs To Start Paying Attention To Libya – In Libya, Leader of Free World Absent Again: While the world’s attention focuses on Ukraine, Taiwan, and the Middle East, bad things are coming out of Africa. Libya could well add to that list. National elections are in limbo, and U.S. leadership seems once again missing in action. Why should we care? North Africa is an integral part of the “Greater Middle East,” and a Middle East at peace and prosperous is good for America. In the best of worlds, Tunisia, Libya, Morocco, and Sudan would be pillars of stability. Algeria would at best keep the problems of Algeria in Algeria. Our research shows many DEI staff have a blind spot when it comes to Jews – The fact that DEI staff are organizing against Jewish interests is painfully clear to Jewish students who have directly experienced it on campus. It is becoming commonplace to hear claims, like those expressed by a DEI committee at Stanford University, that because “Jews, unlike other minority groups, possess privilege and power, Jews and victims of Jew-hatred do not merit or necessitate the attention of the DEI committee.” DEI staff are not just failing to protect Jews, thereby inviting antisemitic attacks; some are actively organizing and encouraging political campaigns against Jewish interests, especially with respect to Israel. Heritage Expert: Jay Greene
