Over the past year and a half we have seen unprecedented levels of fear, anxiety, and despair among the youth and families we serve. But we have also seen how, given the opportunity, our community will go to extraordinary lengths to support each other in times of crisis.

An especially inspiring example of this has been Identity’s non-clinical emotional support groups called Encuentros. Rooted in Latino cultural traditions of neighbors helping neighbors through difficult times, these groups provide space for honest discussion about emotional challenges co-led by Identity staff and trained community Promotores.

Co-leading an Encuentros group makes me feel that my life has meaning. I feel empowered because I do my bit to help our community. - Promotora

Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 300 people have participated in Encuentros, learning skills to help themselves and others manage stress, anxiety and grief.
