psst, 36-hour warning: time's running out to TRIPLE your gift >>
Big things start small — one person at a time.
More than 50 years ago, our founder, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, launched Special Olympics in her backyard with a dream of inclusion for everyone. One of the people she inspired was me: a young woman who started off with Special Olympics as a local volunteer and coach.
Now, a few short decades later, we reach millions of athletes around the world. I’m humbled to be the CEO of this incredible organization. And today, we have a new mission — to reach every athlete we haven't been able to reach during the pandemic.
We can do it, but it's going to happen one person at a time: When you donate before midnight tomorrow, your gift will be TRIPLE matched! $25 can become $75, and $50 can become $150. Your gift will combine with those of others to make a MASSIVE difference, so please donate now >>
This year-end deadline is even more critical than usual for Special Olympics. As someone who has spent decades in our movement, it bothers me that we haven't been able to reach all of our athletes during this pandemic — especially because we know they are facing a great deal of loneliness and stress. We really need your help to reach more athletes like Danielle:
Danielle lives with cerebral palsy. School wasn’t always easy; “it just never clicked,” she says. But with Special Olympics, she found her home — as an accomplished athlete in swimming and golf, and also as a dynamic speaker who could talk about the importance of inclusion.
Then, in 2014, Danielle was invited to eat dinner at the White House. She found herself sitting next to the First Lady’s chief of staff, Tina Tchen. And Tchen said something that changed Danielle’s life: “You should be a lawyer.”
Inspired by that conversation, Danielle went to law school at the University of St. Thomas. Graduated. And today, she works as a corporate counsel at Amazon! “Don't be afraid to be creative,” Danielle says, “because there is always going to be roadblocks, and there's always going to be people that say, ‘I don't think you can do it.’ ”
Your TRIPLE matched gift today helps us support even more athletes like Danielle. And it will go THREE TIMES as far to make sure that we can bring athletes back into the Special Olympics fold.
I’ve seen a lot of great years at Special Olympics, but I have so much hope that we can make 2022 our best year ever. And it's all because of supporters like you: Don’t miss this chance to TRIPLE MATCH your gift before the new year:
