John,
My name is Livia, and I’m a Digital Campaigner with the 350 team here in Brazil.
The worst oil spill in my country’s history is happening right now. 2000 kilometers of coastline are currently drenched in oil, creating a dire situation for countless coastal communities.
While all this is happening, the largest oil companies on earth are gathering in Brazil. The reason? There’s a massive, multibillion dollar auction of oil rights happening tomorrow. And we need your help to create an international uproar.
Two of the biggest companies set to appear at the oil rights auction in Brazil tomorrow are based in the US: ExxonMobil and Chevron. Watch the video below to learn more about what’s going on, then join the Twitter storm happening now to shame these companies.
Our movement in Brazil has put up fierce resistance to fossil fuel expansion for years. We’ve stopped oil auctions like this one in the past, and also made monumental steps this year by getting Brazil’s biggest states to ban fracking. Fossil fuel companies are already nervous about this auction — BP (UK) and Total (France) have already pulled out of participating of their own volition.
By sending a message to ExxonMobil and Chevron, you’ll send a clear signal to these oil giants that their actions overseas will have consequences at home. Whether they heed your words or not, your tweet is still meaningful for us over here in Brazil. We’re up against some of the most dangerous conditions for climate activists anywhere on earth, and it means a lot to know that we have your support.
If you would like to find another way to help we are accepting donations here.
In solidarity,
Livia
