Dear John,

It’s tempting to think the violence we witnessed this year as Christian Nationalists stormed the Capitol was a one-off event.

But read the next three quotes – made in just the last month – and you’ll understand why we believe that the same forces that fueled the insurrection on January 6th still threaten our nation today.

“We’re here to take over!”
– Mark Burns, a Christian Nationalist MAGA pastor, speaking at the ReAwaken America conference in early December, where he also declared that any law that contradicts the Bible must be overturned and proclaimed that now is the time for right-wing Christians to “take over” the country.

“This is a war between the false god of secularism and God Jehovah, and somebody’s values are going to reign supreme.”
– David Lane, a Christian Nationalist political operative, speaking at the World Prayer Network livestream in late November, where he explained how he’s been mobilizing evangelical pastors to run for office because that’s the only way “to save America”.

“We are chilled to our bones at the thought of a coup succeeding next time.”
– Three retired generals, publishing an opinion piece in the Washington Post on December 17, about their increasing concerns about more deadly political violence.

We here at the Center for Freethought Equality are working day and night to counter the threat of Christian Nationalist violence, by recruiting, electing, and supporting leaders in government who will champion humanist ideals and principles.

But we can’t do it without your help.

John, if you’re concerned about the threat from a violent, Christian Nationalist movement, make a year-end gift of $10, $25, $50, or whatever you can TODAY to our efforts. Help us build a safer, saner, and stronger America. [link removed]

With the support of people like you, we’ve made incredible progress.

Our work supported the first humanist and agnostic in Congress, Congressman Jared Huffman, who then went on to create the Congressional Freethought Caucus. And we’ve helped to increase the number of state legislators who publicly identify with humanist ideals from 5 in 2016 to 60 today, a twelve-fold increase.

Help build on this foundation, so that we can counter the threats we’re facing during next year’s midterm elections. A year-end gift of any amount will make an enormous difference. >>[link removed]

Thank you, as always, for all you do.
