Last time I wrote to you, I was competing with my siblings to see who could raise the most money for Dad before his September fundraising deadline. Well, unfortunately, I had to give up victory to my younger sister Susana, and she hasn't let me live it down (she even mentioned it at Christmas dinner!).

Team, this is about more than just a competition with my sister – it's about the future of our state. I truly believe that Maryland needs dedicated, empathetic leadership in the governor's office, and you'll find nobody better than my Dad.

Growing up, I knew my Dad had important jobs that sent him across the country, but he always put us first no matter what – never missing a basketball game, a chance to celebrate our achievements, or an opportunity to support our friends and neighbors.

A while back, I told a friend Dad was considering running for governor. She responded, “I never told your dad this, but he was my father figure growing up.”

Her words say everything about the kind of person that my Dad is – relentlessly kind and dedicated to helping those around him, whether he knows you or not. As Governor, I know my Dad will go to work every day ready to devote himself to fighting for Maryland families because I've seen him show up for people my entire life.
