Run for Something

Hi there --

Assuming you didn't spend last night tracking 155 local election results, here's what you need to know:

  • With not-quite-all of the races called before midnight, 67 of our 155 candidates -- nearly half! -- have won outright, with another two folks moving onto run-offs.
  • More than 60% of our winners are women, a third are people of color, and 15% are LGBTQ.
  • After three straight years of investing, recruiting, organizing, and even losing in Virginia, Run for Something candidates helped to turn my home state blue.

We'll be sharing the lovely, powerful, and even heart-wrenching stories of our candidates over the next few days, but what's important to keep in mind right now is that good nights -- like we had last night -- take two things to build: time and money.

Unlike a lot of political orgs, we don't staff up just before an election and then scale back down afterwards. Instead, we're just as busy today as we were yesterday; filing deadlines for 2020 are coming up too fast in too many states, and we're not too far from starting to think about where we'll make our major investments in 2021.

I always say that a donation to Run for Something is the investment you'll make with the highest returns, and I mean it. We’ve elected nearly 300 candidates since we started less than three years ago with a barebones budget. Imagine what we could do with just a little more help.

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

Thank you, and congrats -- I hope you feel as good today as everyone here does!
