John,
Sara let you know yesterday why Texas remains one of our priority states in 2022, and I'm going to let you know why we're also focusing on Ohio and Georgia.
But first, as a reminder, we're still around $2000 away from closing the gap in our December budget, and your donation of any amount helps us ensure that a minority of overly-funded, anti-choice politicians cannot continue to consolidate power and ignore the will of the overwhelmingly prochoice majority of this country.
Ohio is one bad election away from looking much more like Texas when it comes to reproductive rights!
Ohio was the first state to jump at the opportunity to ban abortion during the COVID-19 pandemic, calling it an ‘elective procedure’ and stating that it’s not essential, which is obviously false, as abortions are specifically time-sensitive.
And even though Ohio does NOT have a trigger ban on the books, leadership has signaled an intent to ban abortion, as they regularly pass restrictions to push abortion out of reach. We anticipate that unless we elect prochoice champions at every level, Ohio will ban abortion as soon as Roe v. Wade is overturned.
Year after year, we have invested in Georgia across all our programs. In 2019, Georgia passed a 6-week abortion ban that was struck down as unconstitutional, but with new Justices on the Supreme Court, the law may be reconsidered after the critical decision in the Mississippi abortion ban case.
Georgia’s May primary will likely be one of our final electoral priorities before the Supreme Court rules on overturning Roe v. Wade.
And to date, #VOTEPROCHOICE has endorsed and coached a total of 63 candidates in Georgia and 41 in Ohio, and we hope to endorse many more in 2022.
To support our work in Ohio and Georgia, please consider making a recurring contribution here.
