Dear John,

As 2021 comes to a close, I’m grateful for so many things—my darling husband Neil, my four children and their spouses, especially my seven grandchildren (!!), my health, and the opportunity to run for an important countywide post that would again allow me to serve our community as an elected official.

After I lost the Mayor’s race, I never expected to run for public office again until many local leaders approached me last summer. Community service has always been an integral part of my life. That’s why I started three organizations that empower women—Athena San Diego, Run Women Run, and the Workplace Equity and Civility Initiative. It’s why I served on the San Diego City Council and relentlessly stood up for the interests of residents— as the first elected official to question the 101 Ash Street purchase, as the first elected official to oppose the SoccerCity scam and support SDSU West, and as the first elected official to demand an independent investigation of the Public Utilities Department when hundreds of customers were being overbilled and weren’t being taken seriously. That led to customer refunds and reforms.

The role of San Diego County Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk, is essential in making sure that everyone, including big corporations, pay their fair share of property taxes. This year, property taxes will generate about $7.6 billion in taxes that are used for education and other important public services. I will bring my background in business and equity, transparency, modernization and integrity to running this office, which has an annual budget of $76 million and 400 employees.

December 31st is my first and most important fundraising deadline. Please contribute now to show that you stand with me:
