For every settlement built up, the hopes, aspirations and futures of
Palestinian people are torn down, and so is the vision of a just, equal
and democratic future for Israel.

The images below -- from the progressive Israeli human rights group
B’Tselem -- are from a November demolition which left 15 Palestinians
homeless.

It’s no secret that the United States could be doing more to end these
injustices and deter the destruction. No secret that we could be doing
more to support progressive Israelis and Palestinians on the ground who
are working toward a more just and equal future.

* We could make clear that settlements violate international law;
* We could fully mobilize our diplomats to deter demolitions and
settlement construction;
* We could use accountability mechanisms to ensure our military aid
isn’t deployed to support settlement construction, bulldoze family
homes or violate human rights.

That’s what it means to stand firmly by our values, to give real support
to our pro-peace allies in the region, and to plant a flag for a truly
just, democratic vision for Israel’s future.
