I just spoke with my fundraising team about where we are ahead of the most important deadline of the entire year: the final public FEC reporting deadline of 2021.

The news isn't great: We're facing a troubling shortfall of $12,000 with fewer than 72 hours to make up the gap. If we go public with a fundraising report right now, it won't be what it needs to be to show the strength of our campaign.

I hope you'll forgive my bluntness, , but for me, this is not an option. Senate control is on the line, and with a 50-50 split right now we cannot take any seat for granted. After all, I'm facing a Trump loyalist and a national Senate GOP committee that has $30 million in the bank – and that's exactly why we set such ambitious fundraising goals like this for our campaign.

Otherwise, we allow Mitch McConnell an easy path back into the majority. You know as well as I do, that's the last thing our country needs right now.

For me – and for the country – it doesn't come down to wins and losses.

It comes down to whether we want an extremist party beholden to a corrupt, twice-impeached former president to hold power again.

It comes down to whether we want the power that comes with a majority to investigate Donald Trump and hold bad actors like him accountable.

It comes down to whether we want to protect and repair our democratic institutions.

*For all of that, for everything that's at stake, we cannot leave a single dollar on the table.*
