John, we’ve done some big things this year, all building towards 2022.
Justice Democrats launched 5 campaigns. Over the course of the year, we helped launch campaigns for 5 progressive primary candidates ready to take on the political establishment. Odessa Kelly, Rana Abdelhamid, Kina Collins, Jessica Cisneros, and Summer Lee are running campaigns to build the Justice Democrats bloc in Congress and fight for Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, and student debt cancellation.
We were there even before Day 1. We helped recruit Odessa, Rana, Kina, Jessica, and Summer to run for office and helped them build their campaigns up so they were ready to announce their candidacies. We raised hundreds of thousands of dollars on launch days to help propel our candidates towards national media attention and strong runs against the status quo.
In the last year, Justice Democrats held the line and continued fighting for economic, social, racial, and environmental justice.
The Squad refused to vote for a bipartisan infrastructure bill when House Democrats gave away their last bit of leverage to pass the Build Back Better Act — legislation to strengthen America’s social safety net, fight climate change, and lower prescription drug costs. Cori, Jamaal, AOC, Ilhan, Rashida, and Ayanna bucked the Democratic establishment. And they were right to do it — a few weeks later Joe Manchin said he wouldn’t vote for Build Back Better.
The corporate Democratic Party will always prioritize their wealthy donors, Wall Street, health insurance CEOs, and corporate PACs. Justice Democrats prioritizes the people — that’s why we’re 100% grassroots funded AND JDs will buck the Democratic establishment to continue pushing policies like Medicare for All and a Green New Deal.
Our work to expand our power in Congress depends on our ability to win open Congressional seats, defeat corporate-backed incumbents, and re-elect the Squad. That’s why we need your help going into 2022.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
