John – Fred Guttenberg here. I’ve reached out on behalf of my friend Rep. Lucy McBath several times before. I’m a gun safety activist from Parkland, Florida. 

My 14-year-old daughter Jaime was shot and killed along with sixteen other students and educators at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. My son Jesse was also at school that day. As a parent, you want to believe that gun violence will never affect you and your children... until it does. 

After the shooting, I learned about Lucy’s story and the tragic stories of so many other families. Lucy offered comfort, support, empathy, and solidarity to all of us in Parkland. She wasn’t a member of Congress yet, but she was thinking about running at the time. 

As the days and weeks after the shooting unfolded, I immersed myself in the gun safety advocacy community – and Lucy became a trusted mentor and ally. Her run for office showed that when we amplify our stories as survivors, we can beat the gun lobby and win this fight. But, her continued presence in Congress is in doubt after Republicans and gun lobby groups spent the last four years attacking her, culminating in this year’s undemocratic redistricting process.

Republicans have made Lucy’s path to re-election so much more difficult, which is why it’s crucial that her campaign can hit each and every fundraising goal they set. At the moment, they’re still $7,105.50 behind their end-of-year deadline goal. John, can you pitch in to help keep Lucy in Congress in 2022?
