Friend,
Today is Pledge of Allegiance Day, a commemoration of the day in which the pledge was formally adopted into the United States Flag Code.

And while many take the pledge, the flag and the United States of America herself for granted, I ALWAYS choose to stand proud for the Stars and Stripes - even though my legs are made of metal.
In case you don’t know how I became a double amputee, allow me to share the story of what happened on September 10, 2010.

I was serving my country as a bomb technician in the armed forces, clearing a path for my fellow soldiers on the battlefield in Afghanistan. And while I was able to detect and destroy most of the IEDs that I encountered, the very last one actually detonated directly beneath me.

The result was catastrophic injuries, including the loss of both legs and a finger - but by the grace of God, and the quick action of my team who provided me emergency medical service even in the wake of an explosion, my life was ultimately spared.

I survived, battled back from my injuries, learned to walk again and found another way to put my Service Before Self for the greatest country in the world - as a United States Congressman.

But while I was fortunate enough to survive my injuries in Afghanistan, I don’t lose sight of the fact that many selfless, noble, heroic men and women DID pay the ultimate sacrifice defending the Stars and Stripes and all that it represents.

And that’s why I will ALWAYS stand proud on my metal legs for the flag, . It embodies freedom, liberty and rights that are found nowhere else!

We can’t forget what the flag stands for - nor can we ignore those who want to reshape what America represents with their own partisan vision.

To that end, , I was wondering if you have the means to help my team and me with a big defense of America today. We’re working towards our final deadline of the year, and we have to reach it if we want to keep our country great by electing more dedicated, patriotic leaders who can fight alongside me against an America Last agenda.

, since we’re going up against crooked politicians who ABANDONED troops in the very mission where I lost my legs, can I count on you to fight with me during this last goal of the year?

I was proud to pledge my life in defense of our country. I hope you’ll help elect more patriots who share this commitment to Service Before Self!
Thank you for the support!
In service,
SSG Brian Mast, U.S. Army (ret.)
