The second reason I’m writing is that I really want to introduce you to my son, Ethan:

Like 200 million other people around the world, Ethan is living with an intellectual disability (ID). We don't know exactly what caused it, and we've given up trying to get a precise diagnosis — instead, we're focused on meeting Ethan's needs.

And let me tell you, one of Ethan's needs is that he NEEDS to move. He used to (actually he still does) run around the backyard in circles until he’s drenched in sweat. One day when he was 8, I put my fitness tracker on him, and he'd logged over 40,000 steps — that's 20 miles. 

So imagine Ethan's joy when we moved to North Carolina and discovered Special Olympics. It had an enormous impact on BOTH of our lives! That first spring, Ethan ran on the Special Olympics track team, and he just ate it up. The relationships he formed were so meaningful to him.
