This is infuriating, John.

Last night, we got word that President Trump formally notified the United Nations that he will withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement.

To call this move short-sighted would be a huge understatement. With this decision, we are effectively turning our backs on the global fight against climate change. Not only that, we are the only country pulling out of this effort. It’s shameful.

Trump’s decision is set to go into effect one year from today. That means there’s still time to pressure his administration to reverse course.

In California’s 8th District, we know that climate change is real and that if we don’t act as good stewards of our lands, our national treasures will be at risk.

Unfortunately, that urgency is lost on my Republican opponents who have only shown a willingness vote lockstep with Trump no matter the consequences.

This withdrawal is a reminder of why it’s so important that we elect candidates who accept the science and are committed to taking bold climate action. With so much at stake, we cannot risk turning backs on our planet and on future generations.
