The threats to our democracy are grave. Which is why MoveOn's campaign to save democracy must be massive and powerful.

Dear MoveOn member,

With the one-year anniversary of the deadly January 6 insurrection just a week away, we need to be clear-eyed about the grim state of American democracy.

Donald Trump and the Republican Party have convinced millions of Americans of Trump's Big Lie, sabotaging the integrity of U.S. elections and undermining public confidence in our democracy. Shockingly, just 27% of Republicans believe that Joe Biden was the rightful winner of the 2020 election.1

Republicans have used the lie of a stolen election to pass new laws this year in 19 states to make it harder for marginalized communities and young people to vote and, in some states, give Republican officials the power to simply throw out votes and overturn results of elections.2

And Trump is aggressively enacting a plot to install right-wing loyalists in offices in charge of overseeing state elections and declaring winners and losers.3

In response, MoveOn has launched a multipronged, multimillion-dollar campaign to save our democracy, which you can read about below.

To get the word out and drive up support, we've printed a big batch of these "Save Democracy" stickers, and we're giving them away for FREE—while supplies last.

MoveOn's strategy to save democracy consists of four parts:

  1. Prevent Trump loyalists from overseeing elections: Trump is plotting to use the 2022 elections to install right-wing loyalists to one of the most obscure, but important, jobs in politics: secretary of state—the state official who controls voter registration, oversees the counting of votes, and declares the winners and losers of elections.4 MoveOn is launching a big, powerful campaign to defeat Trump-backed candidates for secretary of state and elect individuals who will count every vote and ensure free and fair elections.
  2. Pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act in the next three weeks: These bills—already passed by the House—would combat the state-level attacks, create national standards for access to voting, and begin to curb the power of money in politics.5 MoveOn has joined with the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s family and a host of organizations to put intense pressure on the Senate to pass the legislation by January 17, 2021—the day of the federal holiday commemorating the civil rights leader's birthday.
  3. Protect and expand the Democratic majority in Congress: The Constitution requires Congress to certify the results of presidential elections. But if Republicans regain control of Congress after the 2022 midterms, the GOP could have the power to challenge—or even reject—the results of the 2024 presidential election.6 Republicans would need only a simple majority in each chamber to vote to overturn results and install Trump to a second term. That's one crucial reason why MoveOn has launched a hard-hitting campaign to win critical Senate battleground states, including Arizona, Georgia, and Wisconsin, and will launch an all-hands-on-deck campaign to protect the Democratic majority in the House.
  4. Defeat members of Congress who supported the insurrection: Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, Ron Johnson, and all of the other Republicans who voted to overturn the will of the people on January 6 have no business still serving in Congress. MoveOn has launched a massive campaign to hold the Sedition Caucus accountable and defeat them at the ballot box in 2022.

The threats to our democracy are grave. Which is why MoveOn's campaign to save democracy must be massive and powerful.

Join us today by ordering your FREE "Save Democracy" sticker and displaying it proudly to show your family, friends, and community members that you stand on the side of free and fair elections.
