Dear friend,

We’re just a few days away from 2022. I’m getting ready for the preparations that come with an election year on the horizon… but before that all starts, I’ve been doing some reflecting on the importance of this race and where we’re at in this country. And since you’ve been keeping up to date with my campaign, I wanted to share them with you.

As a young woman growing up in central Brooklyn, I never imagined that I’d be where I am now. I’ve had the honor to represent my home and my community in the halls of Congress, and I take this privilege very seriously. I’ve used my position to co-found the Congressional Task Force on Black Women and Girls, introduce legislation cutting rent in subsidized developments, provide relief to immigrants who should not live in fear of deportation, and more. And now more than ever, I’m committed to carrying this work through in 2022.

As you may know, the president’s party always struggles to hold onto seats during the first midterms of the presidential term. And if the Virginia election is any indication, we may see more Republicans filing onto the House floor. While I’ve always prided myself in being open and willing to work with folks across the aisle, we cannot ignore the fact that many Republicans running for election right now have extreme, hateful, and frankly, dangerous views.

That’s why it’s more important now than ever to keep my voice at the table so I can keep promoting progressive legislation regardless of how extreme our opposition may be. As a daughter of immigrants and the only Black woman representing New York in Congress, I have not only the legislative skills but lived experience that’s necessary to advocate for New Yorkers, including and especially the most marginalized ones. I know that the ongoing pandemic has only exacerbated housing instability, economic injustice, and more for many folks in our community – and I will continue to fight for my constituents to create a more equitable country during this pandemic and beyond.

But I can’t do this without your help, friend. In order to ensure that I can keep representing Brooklyn, my campaign needs to have robust funding for canvassing, digital ads, campaign events, and more.
