Friend,
We can afford to invest in our communities when the rich and corporations pay their fair share.
I represent the third least wealthy congressional district in the country, where families were already struggling to afford basic necessities like food and housing even before the pandemic began. So, when corporate Democrat Joe Manchin falsely claims that we can’t afford investments in working people, I’m not going to sit by quietly.
During the pandemic, the 700 billionaires in the U.S. saw their wealth surge by 70% and are now worth a combined $5 trillion.1 That’s obscene.
A simple tax on the growth of billionaire wealth would generate $557 billion in new revenue alone, and ensure our country's richest households are paying federal income taxes each year, just like working families do.2
And what about big, tax-dodging corporations? We can raise another $1.4 trillion in revenue by raising the corporate tax rate to 28%, placing a minimum tax rate of 21% on offshore profits, ending fossil fuel subsidies, and taxing greedy corporations that pollute our environment and our communities.3
I’m fighting to pass the Build Back Better Act to expand healthcare access and lower costs on prescription drugs and healthcare premiums; to drastically lower the cost of childcare and make preschool free for all 3- and 4-year olds; to make the largest-ever investment in fighting the climate crisis; to deliver clean drinking water to our homes, schools, and businesses; and so much more.
Friend, will you pitch in $5 today to help hold corporate Democrats and the Big Money interests accountable and deliver on our promises to the American people?
Last year, Democrats were elected with a clear mandate to provide solutions to our everyday problems. And this year we’ve seen how the investments made through the American Rescue Plan are improving our economy, including putting money into families’ pockets each month through the expanded Child Tax Credit. That change alone cut childhood poverty by 40%.
Those monthly payments of between $250 and $300 per child will be cut off next month if the U.S. Senate fails to act with the urgency of the moment and pass the Build Back Better Act immediately.
Donate today to demand Congress put people’s needs before corporate greed and pass the Build Back Better Act.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your secure donation will go through immediately:
Thank you for fighting for a future where the rich and corporations pay their fair share so everyone can have what they need to thrive.
Always serving you,
Rashida
