John,
In just a minute, I'm going to ask you to make a donation of $5 or anything you can to the Coalition on Human Needs ahead of their end-of-year fundraising deadline. But first, let me explain why this request is so important—especially today.
In America today the very rich are becoming much, much richer—they've never had it so good. We now have the absurd situation in which two multi-billionaires own more wealth than the bottom 40% of Americans, the top 1% owns more wealth than the bottom 92% and the gap between rich and poor is wider than at any time in the last 100 years.
All this while millions of working people all across the country are wondering how they're going to afford next month's rent, or how they're going to put food on the table and feed their kids.
At a time when millions of American families struggle each week to make ends meet and at a time of massive wealth and income inequality, we must do away with our corrupt and broken tax system in which many of the richest people and largest corporations in the country pay little or nothing in federal taxes.
Let's be very clear: The wealthy and powerful corporations must finally start paying their fair share of taxes so we can invest in working people and families.
The Coalition on Human Needs is a critical ally in our shared fight against chronic and systemic inequality. Your activism on behalf of children, families, seniors, and working people is what drives change―because change never happens from the top down; it only happens from the bottom up.
Can you make a year-end, tax-deductible contribution to CHN today to fight for policies that lift up working people and families? We need CHN to keep pressure on members of Congress to fight for transformative changes to our tax code to finally make the rich and corporations pay their fair share in taxes.
DONATE
The current state of our broken tax system is absolutely unacceptable.
We have billionaires out there who now want to zoom around on a rocket and pretend they are astronauts. That's fine, it's a free country. But don't ask for government subsidies to do it and then whine when you're asked to pay your fair share of taxes.
Here's the truth: If we are really serious about reforming the tax code and rebuilding the middle class, we have got to demand that the wealthiest Americans, large corporations, and Wall Street start to pay their fair share in taxes. That means we need activists holding members of Congress accountable and demanding they fight for a budget that reflects our shared priorities.
Can you make a year-end, tax-deductible contribution to CHN today so they have the resources needed to fight for a progressive tax code that lifts up working people and families in 2022? I wouldn't ask if this weren't so important.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your secure donation will go through immediately:
It's time for a government that works for working people, not just a handful of billionaires and large corporations. Thank you for all you do in the fight to make that vision a reality.
Sincerely,
US Senator Bernie Sanders Chairman, Senate Committee on the Budget
