I grew up in a neighborhood without much privilege. Our public schools were severely under-resourced -- only a few of us made it to college. And if we messed up even once, we were more likely to end up in prison before walking across the graduation stage. The truth is, people like me are rarely given a first chance to succeed -- much less a second. That’s why I just released my First Chance criminal justice plan to TRANSFORM our broken system into one that gives folks a real chance from the start.
