Your support keeps us in court.

John,

In 2021, the American Immigration Council filed lawsuits under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) with our partners to fight for an immigration system that is humane, just, transparent, and accessible to all.

Supporters like you have been the foundation of the Council for over 30 years. Will you make a year-end gift to the Council’s 2022 legal action fund today?

Here are 3 lawsuits that you will directly support with your donation:

1. Seeking Information About CBP’s Raids of a Humanitarian Aid Station

U.S. Customs and Border Protection launched three militarized raids in the deadly Arizona desert targeting No More Deaths, a humanitarian aid organization that works to provide life-saving care, food, and water to migrants who have crossed the border. CBP descended on the aid station in armored vehicles and apprehended people receiving medical treatment. The Council and our partners sued CBP after the agency refused to release vital documentation about the raids.

2. Demanding Records About the Treatment of Black Immigrants in Detention

Black immigrants are often the target of abuse and mistreatment within the U.S. immigration detention system. Yet these concerns are too often missing from the public’s understanding of immigration and immigration detention. The Council—along with our partner the Black Alliance for Just Immigration—filed a lawsuit demanding that the government provide information related to eight detention centers throughout the South.

3. Suing to Obtain ICE’s Reports on Enforcement Actions and Removals

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) issued new enforcement priorities under the Biden administration that impact who is subject to enforcement and removal. The Council seeks records about the implementation of these priorities to better understand the agency’s approach to enforcement and ensure ICE follows its own guidelines.

The Council can file lawsuits because of your generosity. Help us hold these immigration agencies accountable by donating today.
