People For Member Highlight: Writing a More Hopeful History
Dr. K. Kevyne Baar has been a fan of People For since its earliest days, remembering vividly the earliest days of the organization when Norman Lear and Rep. Barbara Jordan were both rare voices against a tide of right-wing extremism and hostility.
“I really love how they work across generations,” Dr. Baar wrote in our recent Legacy for Liberty newsletter, explaining why she’s always felt that there was a place for her in People For and its work.
“We can’t just hope things will get better – that education and understanding, kindness and consideration, love not hate will be the order of the day. We must invest in that vision and by supporting People for the American Way, I’m grateful to have been given the opportunity to do my part."

People For Members Grow Voting Rights Movement
In 2021, we saw the greatest wave of voter suppression bills since the rise of Jim Crow. Over and over again, Senate Republicans abused the filibuster to prevent critical voting rights legislation from even being debated, let alone passed.

Right Wing Judges Put Millions’ Rights and Access to Health Care at Risk
The movement to criminalize abortion in the U.S. is on the brink of its biggest victory in 50 years, since the decision in Roe v. Wade. On December 1, the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments in the case of a Mississippi abortion ban that could undo health care protections for millions of people in one fell swoop.
Groups that want to eliminate access to abortion like to describe themselves with terms like “pro-life” and “pro-family,” but those are intentionally deceptive.
