Answering the Call of the Hungry, Literally

Each day, the phonelines at the USDA National Hunger Hotline ring non-stop. On the other end of these lines are hungry Americans desperately seeking food resources to feed their families. With your support, we can continue to answer these calls.

These calls drive home for us that there are still millions of American families who are struggling with hunger and need our help. This reminder was all too clear in a recent phone call that the Hotline received…on the other end of the line was a little girl.

Our Hunger Hotline Associate could hear mom whispering in Spanish and the little girl translating her questions into English. We staff our hotline with bilingual associates to ensure that as many callers as possible can speak to someone in the language they are most comfortable with to get the help they need.

Our Hotline Associate told the sweet little girl to put her mother on the phone, as she spoke Spanish. As our Associate shared “the sigh of relief in the girl’s voice…amazing. The Mami was most grateful and I was most happy that I could provide her with information on SNAP & Pandemic EBT.”

The Hunger Hotline is a critical front-line resource in the fight against hunger in this nation. Unfortunately, we are facing a critical shortfall in funding for this vital program and we need your help today.
