Hi Friend,
“Help me.”
Those are the two words Khalil* knows in English. He repeated them over and over during our conversation last week. Through a Farsi interpreter, he told me he was a student until the Taliban took over Afghanistan. When the schools shut down, he moved in with his parents who don’t know he’s gay.
Khalil knows better than anyone that if he’s outed, he’ll be subject to public execution—by stoning or being crushed under a wall. He sobbed, “At 18 years old, what you’re supposed to look forward to is the rest of your life, but my life is over.”
Not if we can help it. This is unconscionable, and we won’t stand for it. No one should be persecuted for their sexual orientation or gender identity. Ever.
We must come together to support our community.
Immigration Equality is doing everything possible to secure safe haven for LGBTQ refugees, but we urgently need your support to ensure their safe passage. You can help LGBTQ Afghans like Khalil and queer refugees from around the world right now. Donate today and your gift will be matched 100%.
Thank you,
Aaron C. Morris, Executive Director

P.S. We are $160,000 away from our year-end fundraising goal of $300,000. Will you support our life-saving work with a gift today and get us past the finish line? Donate here.
