WHAT : Join us at the general meeting to hear our 2 guest speakers:
1. Andy Bingle, who is the Education Program and Operations Manager for the Colorado Agrivoltaic Learning Center. Prior to his work at the Center, Andy was the Program Manager at the International Crane Foundation, teaching about conservation issues.
2. Byron Kominek who is the developer and owner of Jack's Solar Garden. Byron has worked in international development for 15 years, including 6 years spent in various parts of Africa. He is a former U.S. diplomat and a former Peace Corps Volunteer.
LEARN: Traditional vegetation management techniques of growing turf or leaving bare ground under solar panels can lead to decreased water retention, reduced carbon sequestration and loss of habitat for pollinators, birds etc. Learn how agrivoltaics, the practice of planting vegetation under solar panels can reduce the environmental impacts of large solar installations.
ACTION: Advocate and educate about the need for large scale solar installations at the state and federal level and how it can be done with positive impacts on agriculture and the environment.
