John,

Recent gun violence in NC and across the country has demonstrated the immediate need for more prevention efforts. We can’t wait to invest more in this work—the safety of our communities depends on it.

We are encouraged by recent progress and investment in education. For the first time our state government has invested in any type of community or hospital based violence intervention programs. The final NC budget has $500,000 for a Winston-Salem Hospital-Based Violence Intervention Program (HVIP) and $375,232 for a Duke HVIP. And, the Governor’s Crime Commission (GCC) has picked Community Violence Intervention (CVI) programs as a priority to receive grant funding.

But this isn’t enough. We need your help to continue to advocate for increasing funding in education to prevent gun violence across our state. Will you join us with a tax-deductible gift to the NCGV Education Fund this year? Your gift will be matched dollar for dollar making your gift go further.

"The work is important in so many ways. Not only are we saving the lives of the people we are contacting in the community, but this program has saved us as well. Many of the guys we currently have in the team, all of us have lived that lifestyle - who better to go back into the community than us, to bring the community out with us and to stop the shooting. It’s trying to have people succeed with us in life. We want people to put the guns down so we can put something else in your hands - whatever it is, schools, mental health care, job opportunities - anything we can do to make a person successful in the community. Stopping the violence is part of what we do, but we are more about lifting people up."

- David Johnson, Bull City United in Durham, Community Violence Intervention Program

We know prevention of gun violence is possible through education. Donate today to help us expand our work to educate others and prevent gun violence. Your gift will make an impact on the safety of our community.

Sincerely,
Becky

P.S. Your gift makes a difference. Every dollar raised goes directly to supporting and expanding prevention efforts in our communities. We can't do this without you!
