This month we published our year-end edition of Gun Law Trendwatch, which breaks down state firearm legislation from the past year. While 28 states passed 73 significant gun laws in 2021, we’re also seeing a dangerous trend spread across the country.

Over the past year, while some state legislators were strengthening gun laws, others passed a series of reckless bills that put our communities and our children at greater risk of gun violence.

Permitless carry, a gun lobby priority that allows individuals to carry guns in public spaces without any background check or safety training, was enacted in six states, bringing the total to 21 states—up from just four in 2014.

Giffords Law Center is leading the charge to stand up to the gun lobby. Gun safety advocates fought hard to prevent gun lobby-backed bills from becoming law in 15 states in 2021. Your support makes this fight possible.
