For years, state lawmakers have passed blatantly unconstitutional abortion bans and restrictions. They've had two goals:
First, they want to put abortion access out of reach for as many people as possible. That means requiring pregnant people to travel long distances and endure long wait times to get the care they need. Forcing burdens and regulations on providers to try to shut them down. Chipping away at abortion access one community at a time.
These tactics have done so much damage. And like so many other parts of our discriminatory health care system, the barriers fall especially hard on Black, Brown, and Indigenous people, as well as people with low incomes.
This crisis is happening now, in Texas and beyond.
Will you make a special year-end gift to help support access to care? Right now, all donations up to a total of $500,000 will be matched dollar-for-dollar.
The second part of their plan is to eliminate the right to safe and legal abortion once and for all. And that threat is staring us right in the face.
In just a few months, the Supreme Court will rule on a Mississippi abortion ban. Mississippi has urged the court to overturn Roe v. Wade — and they may get their way.
