Dear Members and Friends,

Have you made a donation to Audubon Society of Northern Virginia during our 2021 Annual Appeal campaign? If you have, thank you very much. If you haven’t donated yet, there are still a few days left to make a donation that is tax-deductible in 2021. Can you help support our efforts to protect birds and other wildlife and preserve their habitat?

Audubon Society’s mission is to engage all Northern Virginia communities in enjoying, conserving, and restoring nature for the benefit of birds, other wildlife, and people. We have been able to carry out our mission thanks to the support of our donors and thousands of hours of volunteer time. Highlights of our work in the 2021 fiscal year include:
* A record number of educators and schools received grants and scholarships to advance our mission.
* More than three times as many people registered for our classes and programs as in the previous fiscal year thanks to our switch to online programming.
* More diverse communities learned about birds, wildlife, and the environment as we increased our efforts to reach out to communities that we had not traditionally served.
* We hired a local high school student as a youth intern to improve our outreach to young people who will soon be responsible for preserving and enhancing our environment.
* ASNV members served on statewide study groups to reduce invasive plants and control feral cats. We advocated for policies that preserve natural areas, implement native landscaping on municipal property, and encourage bird-safe building practices.
* Our Audubon at Home Ambassadors provided advice to homeowners and caretakers of community spaces on how to create wildlife-friendly habitat. As a result – a record number of acres were certified as AAH Wildlife Sanctuaries.
