People For Supporter,
I’m Kristen Smith, and I have the privilege of leading the Finance team here at People For the American Way.
I’m writing you today because we’re now officially in the final week of the year and we’re in a bit of a crunch!
I know that we, and a number of our supporters, have been writing to you a lot about the importance of renewing your 2022 membership early. As the chief accountant at People For, I need to reiterate that urgency.
We had ambitious goals for the last few months of the year – especially online – and in October and November, we fell short. So here we are in December with a significant deficit to make up AND, even though thousands of our members have stepped up to renew early for 2022, we’re also running behind on this month’s goal.
As a nonprofit organization that relies on our grassroots supporters, we absolutely depend on December – our biggest fundraising month – to produce the revenue we need to set the tone for our work as we head into the New Year.
And right now, we still need an estimated 8,685 donations to close our gap and make our goal before the clock strikes midnight this Friday.
We have some really big plans for next year – because it’s going to be a make-or-break year for the very survival of our democracy. And we just can’t do the work that’s so desperately needed without your financial support.
Your contribution will help us guarantee fundamental voting rights for all Americans, including passage of the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Act.
Your contribution will help us expose and disrupt the Far Right and their attempts to subvert our democracy and divide Americans with hate.
Your contribution will help us restore a balanced judiciary that delivers justice for all Americans, not just the wealthy and well-connected.

Your contribution will help us mobilize volunteers and play a strategic role in keeping the House and Senate in Democratic control next year – AND help elect progressive champions in key races, such as Stacey Abrams for Governor of Georgia.
One year from now we could be looking at the possibility of Mitch McConnell becoming Senate Majority Leader and COMPLETELY shutting down confirmation of President Biden’s judicial nominees … and far-right extremists like Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert and Paul Gosar assuming control of key House committees – and then using their subpoena power to further Trump’s “Big Lie” about the outcome of the 2020 election.
I’m hoping you’ll respond to this message with a contribution today so we can put our fundraising drive to bed and get busy with the work that simply must be done.
