Hi —
2022 is going to be one of our most challenging years yet.
This past year in Harrisburg, polluters and their allies have shown no signs of letting up on their environmental attacks. Far-right politicians have tried again and again to block Pennsylvania from joining the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative — our most ambitious action to address climate change to date. They also introduced a package of over a dozen anti-environmental bills earlier this year that would undercut state environmental agencies oversight of drilling and would give polluters even more power to rewrite the rules to benefit their bottom lines. All this while the planet is warming faster than we ever feared.
Yet despite these challenges, we are on the cusp of tremendous change and opportunity. Pennsylvania has a critical gubernatorial race coming up in 2022 and new legislative district maps will soon be finalized. And in spite of repeated challenges, Pennsylvania is on the path to join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and we are continuing to push for transformational climate legislation at the federal level.
To meet these opportunities and get things done in 2022, we’re going to have to up our game — and that means widening our coalitions, building relationships with new environmental champions and strengthening relationships with current ones, and mobilizing activists in every corner of Pennsylvania.
We know what it takes to put environmental champions in office and have spent the past year building on our signature strategies to respond to this critical moment. We treated an “off-year” election as an “opportunity-year” by mobilizing our members to vote in the municipal and judicial elections, sending hundreds of thousands of emails to educate eligible voters about how to make their voices heard and reaching tens of thousands of people on social media.
To prepare for a critical election year in 2022, we also launched a brand new canvass in Chester County to learn more about “split-ticket” voters and what messaging resonates with them. We knocked on over 10,000 doors, had over 1,600 conversations about the issues that mattered to voters, and welcomed over 400 new members as a result.
Campaigns like these work and we have to keep them going. Help us build on these innovative strategies by pitching in with a year-end gift today >>
2022 is a tremendous opportunity to flip the state House and Senate and elect environmental champions across the state. Over the last eight years, Governor Wolf’s veto has often been the only thing standing between us and devastating rollbacks to environmental protections. We MUST preserve that control and elect a new, pro-environment governor, while also working to advance pro-environment policies in cities, towns, and counties across the state that will combat the pipelines that threaten our homes and schools and promote clean energy.
There is absolutely no time to waste. Become a member TODAY.
We have our work cut out for us, but with your support I know that we can do this.
