Dear Conservation Voter,

My past is complicated. I was born to a Cambodian refugee family, went through foster care, and was adopted by a family from the Sebago Lake Region. Throughout my life, Maine’s rivers and lakes, forests, air, and water have been sources of healing and life lessons.

Nature has given me so much and it’s important that I protect it now— and for future generations. This year, I began serving on the board of Maine Conservation Voters (MCV) because of my desire to protect Maine’s environment and act on the climate crisis. During this time of giving, please consider a gift to Maine Conservation Voters that will address the climate crisis and give back to nature which provides us all with so much. [[link removed]]

As a 30-something young professional, I am at the point where I’m thinking about things like buying a home and planning for kids in the future. But, like others my age, I am also asking, “How will climate change impact that?”

Time is running out to address the climate crisis. Already we’re seeing how climate change is affecting industries such as lobstering in Maine. And, across the globe we are experiencing droughts, wildfires, storms, floods, warming oceans, and rising sea levels.

Black, Indigenous, people of color, and immigrant communities are disproportionately affected by climate change, and also are more likely to live in areas with higher pollution, fewer trees, and polluted waters.

Acting now is the only way to ensure that the Maine we know today is still around for our kids and grandkids. And, action must include a focus on equity and racial justice so that all Maine people can live in healthy communities.

One of MCV’s priorities that I’m most excited about is the work we are doing to help put the state on a trajectory to reduce carbon pollution by 80% and use 100% renewable energy by 2050. We are striving to center racial equity in this work to ensure that no community is left behind in the transition to a clean energy economy.

Please join me in making a special gift to MCV today that will immediately address the impacts that climate change has on Maine’s quality of life, and our mountains, rivers, lakes, forests, and people. [[link removed]]

Thank you for standing by our side.

May you have a wonderful New Year,

- Marpheen
