When I was a practicing physician, I used to consult with patients with memory loss from the US and all over the world. Most of the time, the patient was accompanied by their spouse and/or their children.
Because I spent so much time with them, we got to know each other quite well. I witnessed the frustration and confusion of the patient and the worry and stress of the family. Many times, the family dynamics were as destructive as the disease itself. Even with the many mixed emotions experienced by all, there was genuine love and care between them.
This care and love are what continues to drive our efforts to build the work we do and why we continue to do this critical work and why we cannot stop - but we cannot do it without YOU!
