John,

With every challenge our world has faced in recent years, our incredible staff at the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) has continued helping people and families navigate our immigration system while fighting to improve it.

And you’ve been right there with us. I want to introduce you to someone who has benefited greatly from your support.

Keinar is a young mother who came to the United States in 2018 when she was just 20 years old to escape violence and abuse from her family and her partner. When she was given an expedited removal, Keinar contacted NIJC, who then represented her in her asylum case. Keinar experienced many difficult encounters with Chicago U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, especially in getting her ankle shackle removed and keeping it off. In addition to legal support, NIJC also helped Keinar and her family access public benefits and counseling.

Earlier this year, Keinar and her family won asylum! She looks forward to caring for her family and living without fear.

Your donation to NIJC allows Keinar and thousands of other people and their families to look forward to a new year where safety and stability is possible.

As you can tell from Keinar’s story, a ton of work and intense advocacy goes into helping each person NIJC serves, and all of that happens because of generous supporters like you. Your support not only helps people like Keinar and her family, but also helps to end inhumane and discriminatory border policies that turn thousands of families like Keinar’s away at the border.

Right now, we are 70% of the way to our year-end goal and we’re depending on your contribution!

Your donation before the end of the year funds the legal services and advocacy that allow families to thrive, ensure safe futures for people seeking asylum, and create a more welcoming and compassionate country.
