From California to Connecticut and the states in between, NIRH is collaborating with community organizations and advocates to take bold, progressive action. The results? This year, California approved $7.5 million in the state budget allocated for reparations to the hundreds of survivors of state-sponsored forced sterilization. Connecticut passed a bill to address racial and economic disparities in health care laid bare by the COVID-19 pandemic, including a provision that will expand access to doula care for all birthing residents. And advocates in Maryland, New York, Rhode Island, and Tennessee are continuing to push hard for policy changes that will help eliminate this country’s shameful racial disparities in maternal health outcomes.
