     Trump Hammers Islamic State

President Trump made the right call going after Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi – an accomplishment that was clearly equal to nailing Osama bin Laden. But little credit will be given Trump – as the liberal media knows that this operation is one of the differences between Trump and Joe Biden. Biden opposed the operation to take down bin Laden – even though he is now trying to rewrite history concerning his faulty judgement.1,2 From the President’s standpoint ordering this assassination was riskier than Obama’s going after bin Laden. Had this mission failed there would have been no forgiveness in the media. Recall President Carter’s failed mission to rescue our hostages from Iran, and not long after that failure Carter lost his bid for a second term.3 Mission failure would have invited open season on Trump – how much enjoyment would liberals have had comparing Trump’s failure with Obama’s success in taking down bin Laden.  More was gained than just an assassination – intelligence was gathered and two prisoners were taken captive for questioning.4  And a second attack resulted in the assassination of the likely successor, Abu al-Hassan al-Muhajir.

Democratic Insanity Not Seen Since 1860

The Constitution is under assault by the liberal Democrats. They are on record by word and by deed against free speech.5-8 They want to abolish the electoral college.9 Some have advocated for a military coup.10,11 They have engaged in voter fraud12,13 and in illegal immigration in order to inflate their votes. They want to scrap the Second Amendment and have threatened the Supreme Court in that effort.14,15 Essentially, they want to throw the entire Constitution into the wastebasket.16,17
When Donald Trump won the 2016 election, many Democrats had a nervous breakdown.  Very similar to the Democrats’ reaction when Abraham Lincoln was elected in 1860 – a reaction that literally divided our nation.18 First, they tried to convince the electoral college “to do the right thing” and nullify the election by switching their votes over to Hillary.19  It didn’t work. In fact, some of the electors went over to Trump.20 Then they tried the Soviet tactic of declaring Trump crazy and that didn’t work either.21
So now they’re going the impeachment route, an option they wanted to implement before his taking office.  Except . . . they have no crime.  Furthermore, they have perverted the entire impeachment process. Several House committees are conducting their own impeachments.22,23 In at least one committee, the witnesses are being told to not answer questions posed by Republican members of the committee.24  It is being done in secret and the President is being denied due process.  This is all very suspicious and against precedent.
Speaker Pelosi had the House vote on a resolution to conduct an impeachment inquiry to find a crime upon which to impeach the President. In truth, Trump has not broken any laws, but is being impeached because he won the 2016 election.  The resolution’s vote mostly went down party lines, 232-196, which shows the bias and the lack of substance to the impeachment.  And remember, this vote was merely to establish the rules for an impeachment inquiry; not a vote to impeach the President.  And, so nothing changed!
This inquiry is supposed to be finished before Thanksgiving and sent for Senate action.  Now, with Clinton, it took 260 days between the cause for impeachment and the inquiry to begin.  With Nixon, it took 599 days between the cause for impeachment and the inquiry to begin.  With Trump, it took only 11 days between the “cause” of impeachment and the inquiry to begin.2 All this is wasted activity because any impeachment by the House will not be confirmed by the Republican-controlled Senate. This time and energy should be spent solving the real problems our nation faces.

     Supreme Court Disappoints

The Supreme Court declined to review the case of an eleventh-grade public high school student in Maryland who, despite threats of receiving a failing grade, refused to deny her faith by making a written profession of the Muslim conversion prayer known as the Shahada—“There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.” An attorney representing the student, stated “Under the pretext of teaching history or social studies, public schools across America are promoting the religion of Islam in ways that would never be tolerated for Christianity or any other religion.” The PowerPoint presentation to the students included a statement that “Most Muslim’s faith is stronger than the average Christian” … Jihad is a “personal struggle in devotion to Islam, especially involving spiritual discipline.” … “Men are the managers of the affairs of women” and “Righteous women are therefore obedient.” This results in discrimination against any person unable to participate as a matter of conscience. A failing grade in high school may determine what College or University that student is allowed to attend – may very much impact a student’s future.26 The Supreme Court missed an opportunity to protect Christians from persecution, which could have serious repercussions in the future. Just as no one should force an atheist to profess faith in God, no religion should be able to force people of other beliefs to make a profession of faith to their God.

 Bumbling Bonnen Won’t Seek Reelection

Texas Speaker of the House, Dennis Bonnen announced that he will not seek reelection. In June, he met with Dustin Burrows (R Lubbock) head of the Republican caucus and Michael Sullivan of Empower Texans. At that meeting, Bonnen talked about moderate Republicans that he would like to see challenged in the primary to push the legislature further right. In return he would give his organization, Empower Texans,  floor access if he complied. Bonnen did not know Sulivan was recording the conversation. According to the Texas Ethics Commission this is a violation referred to as quid pro quo. (unlike the accusations against President Trump, this was a true violation). The violation was that if you give me something, I will give you something - specifically increased his press access to the Texas Legislature. House Republicans led the charge in demanding his resignation. Bonnen announced he would not resign, but would not seek reelection. His term ends January 2021.

Alert To All Republicans: Elections Matter

There are ten important propositions to amend the Texas Constitution on November 5, 2019. Many propositions have the potential to impact our lives and pocketbooks. The RPBC voter’s guide for these propositions is at the end of this newsletter. Turnout is expected to be low – so your vote matters!

Abbott Cleaning up After Homeless

Governor Abbott is using transportation funds to clean up after the homeless. In June, Austin City Council approved the homeless being allowed to camp out anywhere in Austin— except City Hall. Consequently, the homeless are leaving their unsightly garbage behind that ultimately gets caught in the wind and winds up all over the city. Governor Abbott tried to convince their City Council not to enact the ordinance, but fell on deaf ears. This is the problem with the liberal mentality, they don’t see the consequences to their actions.

     Pompous, Prattling Popovich

With help from David Robinson, Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard, Coach Gregg Popovich became a unifying and beloved figure in San Antonio. His accomplishments caused our community to take pride – the Spurs were enjoyed by virtually every resident. But at some point, Gregg lost sight of the fact that basketball is supposed to be about entertainment. He got the impression that San Antonio really cared about his political views. He lost sight of the fact that even people who favor liberal immigration – would still like those coming into our country do so in an orderly manner. After all, sneaking across the border with the aid of human traffickers is a poor way to bring young girls and women into our country.
Concerning his view of Trump, as being “xenophobic, homophobic, racist, misogynistic” Gregg thought conservatives should have voted for a more morally pure candidate (Hillary) and thus lamented “I live in that country where half of the people ignored all of that to elect someone.” Adding religion to his insults, “I look at the Evangelicals and I wonder, those values don't mean anything to them?” We heard you Gregg – you see us as belonging in a basket of deplorables. So sorry that our forsaking Democratic ideals, like abortion-on-demand through 40 weeks of pregnancy, makes you feel “sick to my stomach.” By the way, it also is reasonable to say that human trafficking must stop – even if that means slowing the immigration rate.27
Sinking to ever-lower levels of moral understanding, Gregg’s preference for the tyrants of China reveals the depths of his hypocrisy. Gregg praised NBA Commissioner Adam Silver for ‘courage’ concerning China, whose attitude was recently summarized by its sports network: “any remarks that challenge national sovereignty and social stability do not belong to the category of free speech.” Yes – China is now calling the shots – so free speech in the NBA must be eliminated. Had President Trump made such a justification of oppression Gregg would loudly yell “racist” … “a threat to democracy.” But when Adam Silver fell in line with such demands Gregg referenced that Silver is a paragon of virtue – you can tell because he held a “big sign in support of LGBTQ” during the New York gay pride parade. Any man so virtuous should be trusted making moral judgments concerning – anything!28
Did Tiananmen Square make you sick to your stomach, Gregg? Or is it just President Trump’s supporters – like those damn Evangelicals – that sicken you? Did it sicken you when taxpayers built the AT&T Arena for a bunch of multi-millionaires while there were still homeless veterans on our streets?

     A Utilities Shell Game

Your water bill is about to increase for the fourth consecutive year. Typical residential customers can anticipate an increase of 19.6% to 29% for the water portion of the bill. However, those using large amounts of water should be more concerned – as high-use residences will see a particularly high increase in rates. Our City Council pre-approved maximum water supply fee adjustments for each year between 2017 and 2020. The 2020 adjustment reflects an increase of 52.4% for high-use customers, bringing the total increase over that four-year period to 77.4%. This is actually lower than the 114% limit approved by City Council.29
It is fair to ask why City Council would be so generous in approving utility rate increases. The answer is simple – seven percent of your water bill goes directly to the City of San Antonio. Actually, a portion of both your SAWS and CPS bills goes to fund priorities of your City and County government. To put this into perspective, the City collects 14% of your electric bill, for a total of $353 million last year. That amount is more than the $313 million collected from you in sales tax, and nearly as much as the $381 million collected from you in property tax.30 Liberal politicians are skilled at transferring money from your account to theirs – without you even being aware of just how much you are paying them. Conservative leadership locally would lower utility bills for citizens of all incomes.

Your Tax Dollars - Promote Wasteful Progressive Agenda

Here is what it takes to scam the San Antonio City Council – which is obviously flush with cash. Learn from the example of Paul Ruiz, returning to San Antonio after a 35-year absence. His idea was that San Antonio was in need of a “National Institute of Mexican American History of Civil Rights.” Focusing on immigrants from just one country, he got a $250,000 grant to start such an organization. Of course, expenses will be monitored by its Board Chair, Paul Ruiz. There is an expectation for another $250,000 in next year’s budget. An argument can be made that a Board Chair that can raise that kind of funding has earned a generous salary. But a City Council that so quickly hands out money to someone just because they present some “woke” project deserves to be voted out of office.

     Robbing Peter to Pay Paul?

Judge Nelson Wolff has reiterated former mayor Henry Cisneros’ idea for redirecting the sales tax collected for Edwards Aquifer recharge zone protection toward ConnectSA projects.

“When you talk about the environment, if you had a good, viable public transit system, 40 to 50 percent of our [air quality] problem is vehicles”, Wolff noted, “So if we can do a better job of moving people around with a variety of different ways, there will be less pollution, and that will do more for San Antonio environmentally than just about anything that could happen.  I think it’s time to move on and do something else environmentally.”31

Well, Judge let’s check the facts.  According to the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) Executive Director Diane Rath in June 2018, only 20.5% of San Antonio’s air pollution comes from the City itself, 16.1% comes from the rest of the United States, 25% from the rest of North America, and 38.4% from around the world.32 Roughly 80% of San Antonio’s air pollution comes from sources we cannot control and vehicle emissions are only responsible for between 8% and 10% of our air pollution.  Moreover, the $100 million Judge Wolff wants to steal from the Edwards Aquifer fund by the end of 2020, will account for only 7.7% of the ConnectSA early projects bill.33
San Antonians voted four times in 19 years to use a portion of local sales tax revenue to support the Edwards Aquifer Protection Program.  Why? Because the aquifer provides water to two million people – a number increasing at a rapid rate – over 12 counties and is critical to our agricultural industry.  In June 2019, $2.6 million were awarded to UTSA to maintain stormwater management for aquifer protection.34
San Antonians take an abundant and clean water very seriously.  Perhaps the Judge has become too disconnected or senile to recognize that fact and that it is not air, but water pollution that will preclude his visions of San Antonio as a prominent manufacturing hub.
Election Integrity
Elections in Bexar County are conducted by the Bexar County Elections Department, which is supervised by Jacque Callanen, the Elections Administrator. The appointment of the county Elections Administrator is by the county Election Commission, comprised of the County Judge (Nelson Wolff) the County Clerk (Lucy Adame-Clark), and County Tax Assessor-Collector (Albert Uresti). The County Chairs for both political parties also are members.
What is noteworthy is the exceptional job security enjoyed by elections administrators across Texas. “The employment of the county elections administrator may be suspended … on the four-fifths vote of the county election commission and approval of that action by a majority vote of the commissioners court.” Wow – it takes an 80 percent vote of the appointing group, then a majority vote of the Commissioners Court. That kind of job security could lead to cavalier behavior among election administrators across Texas. No wonder Democrats think Texas could go Democratic in 2020.
RPBC has trained some poll watchers to supervise upcoming elections – but many more are needed.
