During the holiday season, Republicans are pushing to end the expanded Child Tax Credit payments we delivered – payments that have cut child poverty by nearly 50 percent. 

For years, far-right Republicans in Washington have lectured America on “family values.” Now they’re ready to end a program that allows moms and dads to pay rent, buy food, and fill prescriptions for their kids over the course of the pandemic. 

What’s more, this legislation offers a tremendous middle-class tax cut, but far-right Republicans – after years of passing tax breaks for the very top – simply won’t get on board.

Democrats know that the way forward demands that we extend this middle-class tax break. Thanks to the work of President Biden and this Democratic Congress, the American economy pulled out of the pandemic recession and is back on its feet. 

The expanded child tax credit helps ensure that more Americans benefit from the rising wages, roaring stock market and low unemployment that’s driving our success today. Republicans should be ashamed to pull the rug out from under that success.

If we lose our House Majority to Republicans next year, cutting programs for our kids, our families, and our future is all we can expect from the GOP. Americans deserve better.
