It’s a difficult time for writers. Over the last two years, we’ve seen and fought back against innumerable challenges, many of them exacerbated by the pandemic: harrowing online abuse, draconian legislative bills restricting the freedom to learn, and authoritarian governments around the world clamping down on creative expression, just to name a few.
But throughout this time, so many of us have taken comfort in literature, in stories. In the knowledge that, no matter how physically isolated we may have been during the last year, we were never actually alone. That’s why I became a PEN America Trustee. It’s why we continue to do this work, with your support—because we believe in the power of the written word.
Thank you for making PEN America possible. Please help us continue doing this work, by giving whatever you can during these last few days of 2021.
All the best,
Susan Choi
